Design started bringing back depth, but in a softer way. Instead of heavy shadows and textures, we now use light, blur, and subtle layering.
Flat design solved clarity, but it also made everything feel a bit lifeless. Designers are now adding just enough depth to make interfaces feel nicer without making them heavy again.
- •Soft glass-like surfaces
- •Smooth gradients in the background
- •Gentle motion and transitions
KEY PRINCIPLE
Add depth carefully, not loudly.
Many modern interfaces use blur and transparency mainly because devices today are powerful enough to handle it smoothly.
